Well Designed, Well Made, Very Practical
This doggie car seat from Furry Voyage is a very well designed, sturdy, & durable product. It is large – big enough in my estimation to comfortably transport a dog of up to about 70lbs. Larger than that, I’d go to a full-back-seat-size car seat.The seat securely straps into the back seat of a car, anchoring on front & back head rests. There are loops to connect the lower back of the car seat by tucking into the space between the car’s rear seat bench & seat back. My vehicle doesn’t have that separation between the upper & lower seat so I ran the seat belts through the loop. The result is a secure car seat that doesn’t shift around.I particularly like the leash that Furry Voyage included. It’s a leash with elastic expansion. So, a dog can freely move about in the seat without becoming entangled in the leash. But, should your pup attempt to climb out of the seat, they’ll feel increasing resistance holding them in.The seat came with a simple installation guide and a storage bag. Installation took all of three minutes. It’s just securing a few clips and zipping closed the sides. The car seat can be easily removed as well, then folded flat. A included storage bag will be handy for storing the car seat in the trunk on those occasions when we need all of the back seat for humans.One suggestion to the manufacturer … they should market a smaller version of this product for pet owners with smaller dogs and smaller vehicles. The seat fit just fine in our mid-sized Lexus, however, I’m pretty sure that this large size version of the car seat will be too large to squeeze into a sub-compact sedan.We take our dog with us almost every time we leave the house. So, this seat will be used frequently and, given the quality construction, it will last for years. The car seat is machine washable, so cleaning it is easy. This product will make our car trips more pleasant in that we won’t have a dog trying to wriggle its way into the front seat. It will also eliminate the tedious job of deep vacuuming the car to remove dog hair that’s shed in the vehicle. This is a great product, definitely a 5-star car seat. The one negative … at $99.99, it’s a bit pricey.

Secure and Comfortable, but Takes Up Most of the Back Seat
The instructions were easy to follow and straightforward overall. The only part that left me a little confused was the extra hardware…there are two additional buckles on the back and one on the front (shown in the photos), and it wasn’t entirely clear what those were meant to attach to. That said, the seat still felt sturdy and secure for my dog, a chocolate lab, even without using them. My dog is generally nervous in the car, so it took him a bit of time to get comfortable, but he did fine on a short drive. I imagine a younger or more car-confident dog would adjust to it more quickly. Once settled, he seemed secure whether he was standing, sitting, or lying down, and there was enough room for him to move around comfortably. Visibility is great, I can see him easily through the mesh net. One thing to note for space considerations…this does take up almost two full seats in the back, so only one person could comfortably sit in the backseat with him. (For reference purposes, I installed this in a Subaru Crosstrek.) It feels easy to maintain. It should wipe down fairly well with a damp cloth between uses, and I like that it can be machine washed if there’s a bigger mess.

Great for Puppies, Less So for Full-Grown Labs
I’m using this for Labrador puppies, though I tested it with our 70-pound lab just to see how it would work. It takes up about half the back seat—from the door to the beginning of the middle console—which is a pretty good size. The attachment system uses seat anchors that slide between the seat bottom and seat back, plus straps that go around both the front and back seat headrests to keep everything secure. It doesn’t shift around during turns or stops, which is exactly what you want.What’s nice is that it extends past the seat itself into the footwell area, so you really get much more space than you’d expect. The hard bottom is pretty solid and holds up well without bowing or flexing, even with weight on it. My 70-pound lab looks absolutely comical in it, but he can technically make it fit. That said, this is really better suited for puppies, probably up to around six months for Labs.The sides are mesh, which they advertise as helping with separation anxiety because your dog can see you. That only really works if you have another person in the backseat, though—it doesn’t help for front visibility. I wish the front panel was mesh too, because it would allow a puppy to keep an eye on me while laying down. As it stands, they’re kind of boxed in unless someone’s sitting next to them.Cleanup is easy—I like that it’s machine washable in one of those delicate mesh bags. So far no puppy has had an accident in this, so I can’t speak to how waterproof it actually is, but the PU leather surface seems like it would handle spills without issue.If you’re raising puppies or have a smaller to medium-sized dog and need something to keep them secure and contained in the car, this works well. For full-grown large dogs, you’ll want something bigger. It’s solid, practical, and does the job for the size range it’s actually meant for.
