Wood shavings are very thin but keeps down the smell
This bedding works okay and it does help keep the oder down. What I personally didn’t care for is the small thin pieces of shavings that gets tracked all over the cage and in the food bowls. My guineas like to run around the cage and when they do it kicks up the wood shavings and it gets thrown out of the cage on to my floor and makes a mess. I am constantly sweeping them and picking the shavings out of the food bowls.I do have to say that if I had to choose between paper shavings or wood shavings I would definitely choose the Natural Aspen Wood shavings. I just expected the size of the shavings to be a little larger and easier to maintain. The softness of the shavings is nice. My guineas don’t seem to mind walking through it. When I clean the cage the next time I may try to add more shavings in a larger area but I didn’t know how my guineas would react so I just put some in the upper corner of the cage.I will add pictures as soon as my wifi has a better connection.

Made my hamster stressed..
My dwarf hamster made very stressful sounds with how poor this material was. No tunnels were able to be made, the smell was not good, look at the stress bites she made to her ladder..

pleasant odor of poplar, expands when wet
Smells like aspen and if you have done some woodworking, it feels like it too. But the package says ‘Foplar’. Weird.The shavings are corn kernel sized but very thin. On the first try, 2 of my rabbits would sneeze profusely until it was removed. I secondly applied a thinner layer where you could still see the bottom of the littler pan and the bunnies did better. It performs excellent as a 20% filler with kiln dried pine pellets which are hard but gradually fluff when wet. the softer shavings mixed in help rabbits with sore hocks or arthritic ones needing a little extra traction in their litter box. Dust level is much lower than shredded compressed paper litter and absorbs moisture very quickly without contributing musty smells. It expands when wet so you don’t need to fluff it out of the bag too much, it’ll do that on its own.. Rats LOVE this stuff and they will literally swim in it if you make it deep enough. As for the size of the package, its not super compressed but smaller than you’d expect for hardwood shavings. A 60L bag of paper littler goes for 18~24 bucks and takes up a lot more shelf space than this stuff. It is a bit more expensive as a primary bedding however paired with pine pellets this bedding as an amendment ends up being cheaper, softer and is more pleasant smelling than a trash can full of shredded egg carton material dipped in animal urine.

Good affordable bedding but messy
This aspen bedding does its main job well. It is very absorbent and does a decent job controlling odors for my guinea pig cage. The low dust claim is mostly true; there is some fine powder at the bottom of the bag but it is not excessive. The issue is the size of the wood shavings. They are quite small and loose, almost like coarse sawdust. This makes them very lightweight so they get kicked out of the cage easily, creating a constant mess around the perimeter. They also do not hold their shape for burrowing pets. It is biodegradable. For the price it is a functional, basic bedding that works if contained in a deep tray, but be prepared for more frequent sweeping due to the scatter. The price is average which is essential. It’s also soft as I think.
