The good end of you get what you pay for value equation
We have several different types of pet fountains, four cats who are rough on all of them and hard water from our town lines. These filter are for two of the fountains we have and combined with the other filter that goes in them, they are quite effective. It’s been 5 months and while past fountains have already gotten rather nasty by now, these are still fairly new looking. We switch the filters in the middle in the time range given and it’s worked fine. Act of replacement is easy, the water comes out clean and consistent. I won’t say these are cheap, but they are worth the money in the you get what you pay for sense. Much better than past products.

Great cat fountain filters
This was super easy to use and a good value for the price. It got the water cleaner than I initially thought and I used tap water. I just switched water fountains for my cat so I discontinued using them.

Restricts water flow without a bit of prep
I can’t speak to the usefulness of the sediment filter, but these do a great job of catching hair and saliva as evident by the system getting gunked up very quickly when I ran it filterless for a couple of days in between filter refills. However, without a little bit of prep on the filters, they’re also really good at restricting the flow of water from the bowl to the recirculation cone, to the point where I’d get the low water warning light while the bowl was filled to the brim. I was able to remedy this by massaging some of the filter fibers loose while pre-rinsing the filters and again while brushing some of the gunk off on its cleaning day. Either way these are definitely worth using!

I replace it after around 2 months of use. It smells moldy and apparently with builtup so I know it’s time.Since this piece is placed on the path where the water recycled from the top and return to the basin, so it’s like safe guarding water quality and is very important. Therefore, I prefer buying from Safe Pet to secure the water quality rather than buying from random replacements brands for this piece. I use the Viva 4L filter and they of course fit well. For the U shape I do get replacement from other brand because those sold by Petsafe are too expensive (those are around $9 for two pieces)
